Take my Hand was a collection of personal stories, memories and dreaming about depression and resilience, performed at La Mama, Melbourne as well as the Courthouse Theatre, Ballarat in August, 2012.
This play told the parallel stories of a man who developed a neurological condition where strong feelings of happiness or love caused him to collapse, and a woman who was afraid to leave her house. We used the physical motive of falling and standing up to frame the work, as well as images of water and flying. Take my Hand acknowledged the seriousness of mental illness in the lives of young people and the gift of courage that is required to move beyond this debilitating condition.
